I love this piece. I think the picture of this makes it stronger because without any surrounding distractions, the intensity level is higher. The flow of the hair creates a subtle movement off the page, however it is balanced nicely with the stare of the face which draws my eyes to the center of the painting. This painting doesnt look like you were trying to convey a message as much as just making a statement with the high contrast portrait (which personally I like). Using a high contrast of black and white and mixing it with complementary colors is really difficult but I think you executed it well in a painterly style. I think the only thing that needs a little more work would be the backround. I love this piece and think you should try another one in a similar style.
